Steven Weiss

Senior Researcher

Steven Weiss is an expert in health care policy. He provides strategic and technical advice to clients on health care payment and delivery reform. His work focuses on improving health care quality and cost efficiency through alternative payment approaches and performance measurement.

Weiss regularly advises clients on the design of clinical episode groupers and bundled payments, and he currently serves as deputy director for a bundled payment initiative funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). As part of his frequent work with state clients, he is directing a project to design a methodology for a state’s hospital global budget for the CMS Advancing All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development Model.

Before joining Mathematica, Weiss worked at Acumen, LLC, where his work focused on developing episode-based cost measures for hospital and physician reporting. Weiss received a master’s degree in health policy from Harvard University.
