Dean Miller

Lead Data Analytics Developer

Dean Miller has expertise in statistical analyses and processing and evaluating health data, such as Medicare and Medicaid claims and enrollment files. He also creates and manages large databases for Mathematica’s health care studies.

Miller, who joined Mathematica in 2009, serves as lead systems analyst for the Money Follows the Person Demonstration, which encourages states to transition Medicaid beneficiaries from institutional facilities into the community. The study compares health status and outcomes based on Medicare and Medicaid claims and other administrative data sources. He currently directs systems development on two studies of nationwide long-term care usage and leads a task to develop Physician Quality and Resource Use Reports, which provide comparative information about the quality and cost of care delivered to Medicare fee-for-service patients. Miller also develops programs to associate beneficiaries with providers for cost and quality evaluations.

Before joining Mathematica, Miller was a senior quality engineer at United States Steel Corporation and held senior positions in quality assurance, systems engineering, and management sciences at the National Steel Corporation. He holds an M.S. in statistics from the University of Chicago and an M.B.A. in finance and managerial economics from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
