Analytic and Technical Support for Education Researchers and Practitioners

Mathematica provides analytic and technical support for the Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs) as well as the general education community. Mathematica combines its expertise in research, methods, dissemination, and communications to systematically assess and create materials and training to advance education research and share best practices. Mathematica’s researchers and communications experts create hands-on, accessible guides, toolkits, briefs, and white papers as well as conduct workshops on using methodological tools.

Some examples of the analytic and technical support that we have provided are:

• Guidance on how to conduct opportunistic experiments, randomized controlled trials that take advantage of planned interventions or policy changes
• Computer software, based on new statistical theory for design-based causal inference, to analyze data from randomized controlled trials
• A series of methods briefs discussing variation in treatment effects, comprehensive reporting on measures used in education research studies, and guidance on forming a strong measurement team
• A series of “how-to” guides on preparing restricted-use data files, creating news flashes, 508 compliant documents, as well as an introduction to graphic design for researchers
