Veronica Sotelo’s work focuses on employment, education, training, and support for families from low-income households. Her research specializes in evaluating and providing technical assistance to programs that aim to improve the employment and self-sufficiency of children and families.

Since joining Mathematica in 2019, Sotelo has worked on a wide range of projects in early childhood, education, family support, and employment. She specializes in qualitative research and analysis to understand program implementation and learn about stakeholder experiences. Sotelo’s current projects include evaluating a variety of U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship investments for the Expanding Apprenticeships study and serving as a coach for the Family Self-Sufficiency Demonstration Development grants evaluation support.

She also provides program improvement support and technical assistance to grantees that work with parents and families, drawing on her experience working with nonprofit organizations in a local and state capacity. Before coming to Mathematica, Sotelo served as a program director for various nonprofits, where she led stakeholder engagements, oversaw evaluation designs, and worked directly with children and families to help them achieve self-sufficiency by providing opportunities for housing and employment. Sotelo holds an M.P.P in public policy from Duke University.
