Sonia Pace is a research analyst in the Human Services division. Her research focuses on quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis of K-12 and post-secondary education programs. Her experience covers a range of program and policy areas, including state data systems, school access, school diversity interventions, mathematics teaching, culturally responsive teaching, and education technology.
Since joining Mathematica in 2021, Pace has worked on education projects for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the Administration for Children and Families, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation. Currently, she is co-survey analysis lead on the Gates Analysis of Middle School Math Systems project. She also serves as a technical assistance liaison for a grantee funded through the Gates Secondary Writing project. In addition, she is leading a task for the Gates Education to Workforce Indicator Framework Project to develop guidance on how stakeholders may prioritize indicators. She also works on the IES Impact Study of Magnet Schools. Past projects include leading administrative data collection for Gates Secondary Writing, and site recruitment for the IES Study of Teacher Residency Programs. Pace is also a certified reviewer for the What Works Clearinghouse.
Before joining Mathematica, she worked at NYC Public Schools, the Child and Family Research Partnership, Dell Medical School’s Department of Population Health, and in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
