Nicholas Chong

Researcher

Nicholas Chong is a researcher with expertise in Medicaid data analytics, policy evaluation, and data visualization. Focus areas for his work include Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) implementation and improvement, behavioral health, and workforce issues.

Before joining Mathematica in 2023, Chong worked on health workforce research, including examination of the public health, nursing, and behavioral health workforces. His current activities support the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services and the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight’s efforts in unwinding the Public Health Emergency declared during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this project, Chong helps track and reports on coverage transitions among consumers who lose Medicaid or CHIP coverage. In addition to his interest in data analytics, he also has significant experience with data visualization.

Chong holds a Ph.D. in health policy from the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration at George Washington University and an M.P.H. in health policy and management from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
