Maria Hassett

Maria Hassett’s work focuses on qualitative research on and analysis of nutrition, education, and health policy.

Since joining Mathematica in 2022, Hassett has worked on a range of projects in nutrition, education, and health policy. Currently, she is working on the Components Study of the REAL Essentials Advance relationship education curriculum. On this study, she led and coordinated virtual youth focus groups in almost 20 schools. She also led qualitative interviews with classroom teachers, school leads, and curriculum facilitators. In addition, Hassett is part of the coding team for this project, which involves primary and secondary coding of data from the qualitative interviews. Other projects include leading an analysis of the American Rescue Plan funds, qualitative coding of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program child support requirement, and quality assurance of staff observations of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program.

Hassett holds a B.S. in nutrition science from George Washington University. Her experience as a health policy intern for a think tank in Washington, DC, along with her community nutrition experience in the DC area, inspire her work in advancing public well-being at Mathematica.
