Emma Ernst leads teams of programmers through the data life cycle in collecting data, diagnosing data issues, processing students’ education records, assembling analytic files from hundreds of school districts, and conducting systematic analyses of the data to inform education programs and policies. She has extensive knowledge of data on student enrollment, demographics, attendance, and achievement as well as data on teacher qualifications and experience. She is an expert in developing data sharing agreements, creating data requests that minimize burden on districts, and processing data in ways that create reliable and appropriate measures.

Before joining Mathematica, Ernst was a statistician for the U.S. Census Bureau. She holds an M.A. in mathematics from Boston University.
