Connor J. Rooney is a researcher in the Human Services division. His research focuses on statistical analyses of quantitative and qualitative data, evaluation technical assistance, and systematic reviews of policy evidence.
While at Mathematica, Rooney works on the design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings for several studies, including co-leading implementation research, report writing, and evaluation technical assistance for two grantees of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Middle Years Math project. Rooney also supports projects in quantitative and qualitative data collection related to educational interventions in elementary, middle, and high schools. He is active in Mathematica’s systematic review projects, including the What Works Clearinghouse and the Home Visiting Evidence of Effectiveness. For these projects, he reviews evidence, synthesizes findings, and contributes to written products for a variety of research audiences.
In past work, Rooney has supported large-scale survey efforts, including instrument design, programming, and testing. He has also assisted in recruiting participants for a randomized controlled trial sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and helped map the methodology of the project’s random assignment processes. Before joining Mathematica, Rooney participated in an implementation and process evaluation of a community broadband initiative in Tennessee, with the purpose of improving youth and student achievement outcomes.
Rooney holds a B.A. from Bowdoin College and an M.Ed. in education research methodology from Boston College with an emphasis on evaluation techniques and statistical methodologies.
