Andrei Streke

Andrei Streke specializes in education research and social program evaluation. He has worked on many projects conducting systematic reviews and quantitative research syntheses.

Streke currently works on two prominent projects for the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES). He conducts independent reviews and evaluations of IES’s Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs), an effort to ensure the RELs focus on high-priority needs and provide educators with high quality products and technical assistance. In addition, he is a lead methodologist, quality reviewer, and a reconciler for the What Works Clearinghouse, an IES initiative that produces systematic reviews of high quality evidence on what works in education. He has been involved in many aspects of the Clearinghouse since 2004 and was a member of the technical review team that developed the first set of standards. Among his other projects, he conducted the meta-analysis of Corporation of National and Community Service interventions that had shown evidence of success and the ability to be scaled, worked as the quality review coordinator for the national registry of evidence-based programs and practices hosted by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, and participated in a systematic review of programs that serve infants and toddlers. He also contributed to pioneering meta-analyses of education drug prevention programs and assessed systematic reviews of key education policy and practice questions for the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation and the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development. Currently, Streke serves on the editorial board of Review of Educational Research.

Before joining Mathematica, Streke held positions with American Institutes for Research, Social Capital Development Corporation, and Tobler Research Associates. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the State University of New York, University at Albany.
