Alyssa Maccarone

Senior Data Scientist
Pronouns she/her

Alyssa Maccarone’s expertise is in assessing Medicaid data quality and applying statistical regression methods to large-scale health evaluations.

Since joining Mathematica in 2012, Maccarone has applied her statistical expertise and attention to detail to a variety of projects. For example, Maccarone programmed difference-in-differences and interrupted time series models to analyze the effect that the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment program had in three states. Moreover, she helped build hierarchical Bayesian models to assess subgroup and overall impacts of the Transforming Clinician Practices Initiative for Medicaid beneficiaries. Lastly, Maccarone has become acclimated to the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System data through her roles on the Medicaid and CHIP Business Information Solution analytics contract, which have included writing and updating specifications for data quality measures, validating external data quality issues, and working with states to resolve their data quality issues.

Maccarone became motivated to work in social policy after taking a sociology class in college on contemporary social problems. Since then, she has been excited to apply her analytic and statistical skills to inform policies that better the lives of others. Maccarone holds an M.S. in mathematics and statistics from Georgetown University.
