The rooftop solar installation component of the Sindh Solar Energy Project created direct and indirect employment opportunities, with a focus on short-term roles during construction and long-term roles in operations and maintenance. While the project made limited progress in increasing gender diversity, it might have contributed to the skill development of the local workforce and potentially influenced broader funding decisions in the solar energy sector. This case study seeks to shed light on the employment outcomes associated with the World Bank’s investments in Pakistan to help procure and install solar photovoltaics systems as part of this project.

A team from Mathematica, consisting of Faraz Usmani, Duncan Chaplin, Patricia Costa, Sarah Leser, and Sara Bryk, collected background material and conducted upstream research for this case study.
