As chief operating officer, Lisa Schwartz works with the chief executive officer and other members of the senior executive team to pinpoint changes in Mathematica’s business context and determine how the organization will adapt to stay strong and competitive.

Schwartz drives operational excellence by overseeing day-to-day business performance, establishing and maintaining alignment across all business leaders, and tracking, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting key performance indicators. She plays a significant role in strategy execution and often leads critical strategic objectives, including the transforming of Mathematica’s culture from a product-centered to a client-centered one, and implementing an innovation framework to accelerate growth. Over time, she has integrated business process and change management capabilities into the organization, introduced client experience management by designing and implementing “Voice of the Client” data collection and feedback loops, and developed a portfolio management approach to innovation.

Schwartz brings more than 25 years of research and management experience to her role, directing efforts in business development, quality assurance, client relations, and innovative business practices. A leading expert in employment and health survey research, she has designed and managed qualitative and quantitative studies of vulnerable populations. She has also served on the National Academies’ Standing Committee on Integrating New Behavioral Health Measures into the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s data collection programs. In addition, Schwartz has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Monthly Labor Review and Educational Gerontology.
