Intraoperative hypotension is common and associated with organ injury and death. Mathematica developed a risk-adjusted measure of intraoperative hypotension to contribute to quality improvement efforts. This podcast from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) discusses a number of new measures relevant to ASA’s members, including the intraoperative hypotension measure. In particular, the podcast hosts discusses some of the innovative features of the measure relative to other measures for anesthesiologists, including its risk adjustment methodology, its use of blood pressure measurements across the duration of the surgery, its reliance on objective measurements, and its status as an intermediate outcome measure.
