Learn MoreAlex Bohl is a senior client partner in Mathematica’s Health Solutions Insights department focused on partnerships and innovation. Dr. Bohl leads and supports projects using real-world data and data science solutions for quality measurement, value-based care, program evaluation, healthcare workforce, and real-world evidence. Working collaboratively with Mathematica’s project leadership, Dr. Bohl identifies and cultivates partnerships with innovative, high-quality data and technology firms to meet our clients’ needs.
Dr. Bohl currently directs the AHRQ Quality Indicators Analysis & Support contract, which produces open-source software and documentation on quality measures for patient safety, population health, maternal health, and diagnostic safety. Previously, he has led projects at Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to implement and monitor the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model. Bohl led Mathematica's CMS Artificial Intelligence (AI) Health Outcomes Challenge team that was selected as a Stage 2 finalist and is competing for the grand prize. Alex also oversaw the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Social Determinants of Health Data Visualization Challenge team, which won the grand prize. At the federal level, he is engaged in AI strategy as a participant in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services roundtable titled "Sharing and Utilization Health Data for Artificial Intelligence Applications."
Before joining Mathematica in 2011, Bohl worked on projects related to quality and process improvement at hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, health systems, and nursing homes. He has a background in industrial and systems engineering, and he holds a Ph.D. in health services from the University of Washington, with a dissertation focused on the economic impact of clinical and community-based to prevent fall-related injuries in Medicare populations.
