Father engagement is the purposeful inclusion of fathers in human services programs with the goal of improving outcomes for fathers, children, and families. Fathers who want to be involved in their children’s lives too often face systemic and/or personal barriers to doing so. Engaging fathers in program services can help address these barriers and open up opportunities for fathers’ enhanced involvement with their families. This infographic presents a framework for father engagement strategies in human services. The infographic defines father engagement and describes key strategies for improving father engagement in programming that can be taken at the program, organization, and system level. The study is sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
