Key Findings:
- In the 2011-2012 through 2014-2015 school years, the Kauffman School had positive, statistically significant, and educationally meaningful impacts on student achievement growth in mathematics, reading, and science.
The Kauffman School is a charter school in Kansas City, Missouri that opened in 2011 to serve middle and high school students from the city’s most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. This paper uses a quasi-experimental, matched comparison group design to estimate the impact of the Kauffman School on student achievement. According to our findings, during its first four years of operation, the Kauffman School had positive, statistically significant, and educationally meaningful impacts on student achievement growth in mathematics, reading, and science.
