Exploring the factors associated with students’ experiences in math classes
Under the Analysis of Middle School Math Systems (AMS) project, Mathematica and the University of Delaware conducted five exploratory studies and presented findings at the 2024 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) research conference. The studies included 1) exploring factors associated with student experiences in math classes, 2) promise and pitfalls of crafting coherence around district-wide vision for equity-centered mathematics instruction, 3) productively adapting instructional materials, and 4) leveraging classroom observation as a professional learning tool to foster ambitious and inclusive middle school math instruction.
