The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded Mathematica and its partners a $69 million, seven-year contract to continue their support of the Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Quality Measurement and Improvement Program. Mathematica will provide technical assistance and analytic support to the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS), states, and other partners that will further CMS’s goal of improving health care access, quality, outcomes, and equity.

“Through our continued partnership with CMS and its Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, we will conduct vital work to measure and improve the quality of care for children and adults in Medicaid and CHIP, helping address disparities and improve health outcomes,” said Margo Rosenbach, vice president and director of health program improvement at Mathematica. “Over the next seven years, we look forward to working with CMCS to support innovation in the Medicaid and CHIP Quality Measurement and Improvement Program that meets beneficiaries’ urgent health needs.”

Since 2011, Mathematica has supported CMCS’s Quality Measurement and Improvement Program, which includes assisting with the collection, reporting, and use of the Medicaid and CHIP Core Sets of health care quality measures. For the new contract, Mathematica will support a broad range of quality initiatives including:

  • Helping states meet mandatory reporting requirements for the Child, Adult, and Health Home Core Sets
  • Helping CMCS and states implement the 2024 managed care final rule (including the new Medicaid and CHIP Quality Rating System)
  • Building state capacity for digital quality measures
  • Offering new on-demand quality improvement technical assistance products

Mathematica is partnering with the National Committee for Quality Assurance, Center for Health Care Strategies, Aurrera Health Group, AcademyHealth, Airam Actuarial Consulting, Amaka Consulting and Evaluation Services, HealthBegins, State Health Partners, The Empathy Studio, University of Pittsburgh, and Wowza on this project.
