The Standing Rock Strengthening Culture-Based Education Partnership comprises educators, researchers, and higher education staff who are transforming math instruction for Native students in Standing Rock, home to Dakota and Lakota tribes spanning North and South Dakota.
The team is creating and implementing culturally relevant, project-based elementary math modules – which focus on Indigenous food/crafts and integrate lived experience and cultural heritage into learning – to boost student engagement and success. Professional development supports help Standing Rock teachers confidently work to increase student interest and achievement in math.
Join Kathleen Feeney and Kirsten Miller from Mathematica, Sunshine Carlow from United Tribes Technical College, and Chris Fried from Sitting Bull College as they present on Strengthening Culture-Based Education in Standing Rock at SXSW EDU in March 2025!
“SXSW EDU is a world-class conference that brings together academics, practitioners, and entrepreneurs to tackle complex education issues together,” said Kathleen. “This event provides an opportunity to showcase the impactful work of our partners and our collaborative progress toward transforming math education for students in Standing Rock.”
The Standing Rock Strengthening Culture-Based Education Partnership is funded under Regional Educational Laboratory Central through the Institute of Education Sciences, within the U.S. Department of Education.
