Mathematica has earned a top score on the Disability Equality Index® and been named as one of the “2024 Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) for the fifth consecutive year.
"Fostering a workplace that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive is vital to Mathematica’s success and to our core values as a company," said Dawnavan Davis, chief equity and inclusion officer at Mathematica. "We deeply value the expertise and contributions of our staff living with disabilities and will continue to prioritize an accessible environment for all our employees."
The Disability Equality Index is the leading independent, third-party resource for the annual benchmarking of corporate disability inclusion policies and programs. Developed as a joint initiative of Disability:IN and AAPD, the Disability Equality Index is an objective, reflective, forward-thinking, and confidential disability rating tool designed to assist business in advancing inclusion practices.
Mathematica continues to see positive trends in representation among people with disabilities in its staff. As of Q4 2023, 10% of employees self-identified as having a disability. Nearly 12% of hires were individuals who identified as having a disability, which is similar to 2022 data. Ongoing recruitment efforts to boost representation among staff with disabilities are a central component of Mathematica’s talent acquisition strategy and remain a top priority.
To support an accessible workplace, Mathematica's efforts include distributing materials in advance of all-staff meetings to allow ample time for all employees to engage, incorporating accessible text and links in internal communications, providing sign language interpreters for management meetings, and offering tip sheets on accessibility best practices to promote universal application of these principles.
Mathematica’s charitable giving over the past year supported the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Association for People with Disabilities, and Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB), an organization dedicated to providing the therapeutic benefits of sailing to people with disabilities, recovering warriors, and youth from underserved communities. In 2023, Mathematica staff across its office locations volunteered nearly 500 hours with organizations that support individuals with disabilities. Organizations included Habitat for Humanity (MI), East End House (MA), HomeFront (NJ), Miriam's Kitchen (DC), and Erie House (IL).
"On the 10th anniversary of the Disability Equality Index, we’re extremely proud of the 542 national and international companies that are taking a proactive role in leading progress towards disability inclusion, setting a benchmark for others to follow,” said Jill Houghton, president and CEO of Disability:IN. “Their dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces not only attracts top talent but also drives innovation and creates sustainable performance in today's global market. Together, we are creating a future where everyone can contribute and thrive.”
Mathematica’s score recognizes the company’s ongoing efforts over the past year to foster an inclusive and accessible workplace.
