Webinar: Preparing Leaders to Make a Difference for Students and Schools

A webinar was held on Thursday, May 16, to talk about lessons learned for preparing principals and school leaders from New Leaders, a national nonprofit that prepares education leaders for schools serving high concentrations of students in poverty and students of color. The webinar covered findings from a recent study that examined the effectiveness of principals prepared by New Leaders and identified competencies of aspiring school leaders that predicted better outcomes.

In this webinar, experts from New Leaders discussed the following:

• The knowledge and skills of aspiring principals that are most important for their future success as school leaders, and how New Leaders assesses aspiring leaders on those skills
• The types of training experiences that help aspiring principals develop their skills as instructional leaders
• Research-based strategies for strengthening the training of aspiring principals and other education leaders

Webinar participants were able to ask presenters questions about preparing and supporting school leaders.

This event is part of a project to share lessons learned from the U.S. Department of Education's Supporting Effective Educator Development grants. Mathematica is leading the project for the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with AEM and Knowledge Design Partners.
