The Horizon Scanning System, administered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), was the first public horizon scanning system to focus on emerging health technologies and innovations in the United States. The system was designed to identify, monitor, and evaluate new and emerging technologies that may significantly impact the way health care is provided in this country.

Mathematica’s Center on Health Care Effectiveness held an in-depth discussion of how the Horizon Scanning System was used on June 14, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. (ET). Our expert panel introduced the basic elements of the system, then reviewed findings from a newly released evaluation of its performance. Policymakers can use the lessons learned from the evaluation to inform future scanning efforts on emerging health care innovations and technologies.
