This interactive data visualization sheds light on the millions of people who are at risk of losing nutrition benefits as a result of proposed policy changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Click on individual states, territories, and the District of Columbia to see how many households and individuals are likely to become ineligible for SNAP benefits as a result of eliminating “Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility.” These data offer important insights for policymakers and program providers, whose constituents and stakeholders may be impacted by the change in SNAP eligibility. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, this visualization uses Mathematica’s microsimulation models and fiscal year 2016 SNAP Quality Control data to provide insight into how changes to SNAP eligibility requirements could impact SNAP participants, including children, seniors (age 60 or older), and people with disabilities.
