In the newest REL Mid-Atlantic blog post, staff from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) describe a compelling art installation project that supports students, builds resilience, and promotes social-emotional learning. The Hope, Healing, and Resilience Through the COVID-19 Pandemic project began in 2021 and has drawn in more than 1,400 artwork submissions from students across the state.
NJDOE shares how the art installation project helped students get through the tough times of the pandemic and highlights research on how engaging with the creative arts helps reduce adverse physiological and psychological outcomes and assists in the development of social and emotional competencies and resiliency.
"The enthusiastic response from students shows their resiliency as they persevere through the challenges they have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said New Jersey Department of Education Acting Commissioner Dr. Angelica Allen-McMillan. “Each submission reflects the young artist’s hope for the future.”
