At Mathematica, we are working to build a more equitable and just world, where evidence drives decisions for global impact. This means that our people and partners rise to meet the challenges our world faces by developing timely, effective, and data-informed solutions. In 2023, we continued to see a range of urgent and far-reaching problems, from rising temperatures and extreme weather events to the long-term health, economic, and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we remain clear-eyed about such challenges, we also recognize and celebrate the signs of progress that are enabled by the use of high-quality data and evidence.
In this year’s installment of Inquiry to Insight, we elevate recent data-driven efforts that are helping confront threats to people’s well-being. We focus specifically on examples of inclusive practices that are generating insights to advance equity; using evidence to improve and expand federal, state, and local programs; helping individuals and populations become healthier by tapping into the potential of real-world evidence; and leaning on evidence as a catalyst in the fight against climate change. The examples represent pressing issues that most resonated with our communities this year. As today’s challenges often extend beyond the U.S. border, many of these examples involve more than one country or have global implications.
The most significant challenges facing society today are also the most complex. They can't be addressed by a single organization or sector, which is why we don't go it alone. As 2023 comes to a close, we are inspired by our partners in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. And as we move into the new year, we are excited to continue working together to take on new and lingering challenges as we collectively seek to promote an equitable, just, and evidence-driven world.
